Wish Magick

Postby Cadno ap annwn on Sat Nov 10, 2007 5:05 pm

I thought it would be nice to mention this style of spell crafting because every person on the face of this planet does it ;)

The power of wishes is a very strong type of magick in my own opinion, many of you know the traditions that our cultures have for this. For example take the simple notion of blowing out candles on a birthday cake. There are two types of magick working there, the wish that a child makes and also the symbolic gesture of blowing the candles out to activate the wish.

Its a tough thing to explain as its so varied, but the one rule that applies to this is that age old phrase 'be careful what you wish for'. Now Pagan's use wish magick in many ways, we may perform a ritual to bring in a new season, but at the same time the ritual element involves a certain amount of wishful thinking. So you can see how it is almost the most common form yet the most understated.

I'm wondering how many of you have practised wish magick in some form or another. Perhaps you have a method you'd like to share with everyone or even better, you may have a good way to explain it lol.

Whatever it is, I'd love to hear your views.

Interesting topic since many of the normals use wishes without even thinking about it. When I was a kid it was a well known fact that if you caught a dandelion seed head and made a wish on it, you could tell whether or not it would come true when it floated away or fell to the ground.

I use wish majic of a sort during Samhain in the form of an intentions box. The concept is so simple as to almost be banal. What you do is write down on a piece of paper what you wish to acomplish/achieve in the coming 12 months but it should be written as a statement. For instance "I wish to be more patient" becomes "I will be more patient". You then fold the paper up small and pop it into a little box or in a wrap of silk or something similar, place it on your altar an forget about it. I tend to bolster the majic with a knot spell which also lives in the box but I duplicate the knot spell in an "As this one so that one" kind of way, burn and bury it.

In terms of how it works it's again fairly banal for this working. By focusing one's intent to the extent of writing a statement the intent itself is externalised and becomes percievable as an object. By then storing it away and 'forgetting' about it, it becomes internalised; so although you don't conciously go about your business thinking 'must be patient, must be patient.' you do have it ticking over in you sub-concious mind when you start to become impatient. By wording the wish as a statement of intent you psychologically approach the issue as if it is already dealt with as opposed to it being something you wish you could keep up. In short, I suppose it all amounts to positive thinking even though you don't realise that you're thinking about it at all.

Hope that makes sense. :D Sounded good to me. 8)

Yep what he said. :D

I would say either mantlepiece or dressing table personally because then it remains in your periferal awareness. If you see something everyday then you almost stop seeing it if you know what I mean.

We, when I was training with the coven years ago, once did something similar - we all wrote our goal/wish on paper and threw it into the fire.

Did mine come true... ? It's still a work in progress ;)

REGARDING THE "WISH SPELL"....HERE'S WHAT I DO/DID.

Postby scorpiongoddess on Sun Dec 02, 2007 8:37 pm

Merry Meet all............

I am a woman in recovery. I have been clean and sober now over 13 years...I learned early on with the "12 step" program, that you need to "Clean your house..." (your soul)...before you can attempt to achieve in your life. By doing what is called a "4th step", which basically is trusting another individual, and sharing with them all the "Garbage" that you've been keeping down deep inside. Things you've done...things done wrong to you.... all the hurt and pain.....things that you fear....things that happened to you that made you who you are today. Things that you may still be doing....or are tempted to do. People you've hurt....it's about getting rid of all that s**t. Preferably you would do it with someone you trust, and who also can identify with you, like another recovering addict....but you do not have to be a recovering addict to do a 4th step.

I believe that it is vital for everyone to get rid of what you carry with you day by day. It's important to share what hurts you have deep inside with someone. This acknowledges that you've been through this, or you've done that............therefore cleansing yourself.

It builds up your self esteem once you've learned forgiveness, and or receive forgiveness for your sins. (so to speak).........

Then can you now look to change a defect of character, or wish for a future goal that is positive, and in which you now feel you deserve and can achieve.

On the sabbat of Samhain, write down all the things you feel you need changing, all of your character defects..Ex:....lieing....stealing, cheating, the seven sins..So to speak...).........write these down on a piece of parchment paper or brown paper bag. fold up the paper and burn it in your cauldron....or if you don't have one, place the paper in a item that is fireproof, and burn.

Say this incantation as the paper burns:

"Light to light, I give it up to thee...
all the things, feelings and wrongs
that are with in me".

As they turn to ash, I am let free.
All that I long for now can be.

So Mote it Be!

Next, take a piece of the same paper and now right down all the things that you wish for. Make sure that the things are feasable, with in reach. Short term goals...try to keep aways for Long term goals....It's "baby steps"....in order to achieve the Larger goals, you need first to perform smaller achievements. Never set yourself up for failure or higher expectations. Cause it will just set you up to feel worse than before and resought to old ways.
Take the paper, fold it, and now you will bless them with the four elements. Light inscense and pass the paper through the smoke..(air)...then take and anoint the paper with blessed water (water) by sprinkling a little on it. Then take and very carefully pass the paper over the top of a candle flame..(fire) preferably a white candle.
and lastly, take and place the paper in a bowl of soil, or anything "earthy" (earth)....leave it there for several moments. Remove your paper and now place it on your Altar. Somewhere concealed. Now forget about it.

Some people choose to anoint the paper with "Anointing Oil"...for an added blessing.

You should see results withing days. Once you have achieved the small wish, goal....remove the paper and say a prayer of thanks to the Lord and Lady. Take the paper and throw it in the ocean. (If you do not live near water, you can take the piece of paper and set it the "winds"...and let the air take it away..)

You can repeat this wish/goal spell several times....each time working towards a higher goal.

I've done this, and have achieved EVERY SINGLE GOAL I asked for.

I've been blessed....
I believe also that it's a POSITIVE OUTLOOK and a POSITIVE FRAME OF MIND..that helps this spell to achieve the results you want.

"Intentions are 1/3 of all desires."

Blessings,
Michelle

I've performed something very similar to this, I can't go into details but I can safely say you'll all have a shock at how successful a working like this could be. The power of wishes is often underestimated in the craft, theres a new age idea that we have to have such and such an item in order to perform the correct way.

The truth is, your mind is an extremely powerful tool and the old phrase mind over matter is so true. Thankyou so much for sharing this with us all Michelle (hope you don't mind me calling you that ;) ) it really shows how a good layout and the correct intentions can have an amazing impact on a persons life.

I'm putting a safe bet on one thing though, I bet you had to work hard in conjunction with this working :)
