Starter Oils?

Postby Freyja on Wed Nov 21, 2007 5:41 pm

I don't know very much about oils, only the very basics. I was wondering which oils would be best for a basic starter kit? Sort of a multipurpose all round set of oils.

Oils I normally have in stock for personal use are Tea Tree, Lavender and Eucalyptus. But I don't know that much about other essential oils, so I am also interested in what would make a good starter set.

Lavendar is a good starter oil it induces calm and relaxtion, great in a bath for kids to get them to calm down or adults who wanna kill the kids who arent calm lol

Eucalyptus is also a great starter oil, it can be used for colds, and sinus' as well as other things

Geranium is also good, not only does it smell wonderful but its a good protection oil and it livens ya up a bit.

Rosewood is also good a bit pricey if im not mistaken but its is used in many blends of oils.

Cedarwood oils if great for pets and keeping fleas away as well as keeping moths if used on a cloth in a chest or closet.

Also Peppermint oil, its amazing in headaches, rub it (neat) on the temples and in 5 mins you will be pain free.

Altho' I have tons of oils but I started with these basics, these are good for me and my lifestyle so it made a great starter kit. I think that this set would do well to anyone as a starter kit.

If your new to oils and the prices, dont get sticker shock, some are costly. It took me a bit but we have to remember that these oils are highly concentrated and will last ages. As always with any essential oil check for allergies!

Thats a great list, thank you!!!!

Especially the anti-flea cedarwood. When I got 2 kittens last year they were completely flea-ridden so of course my other cat and dog got infested too. What a nightmare, I'll never ever let it happen again if I can help it.

You can create your own flea collar all natural for oyur animals.

Get a soft material collar for your animals, this wills erve as the actual coolar that you will use, then take
1/2 teaspoon of alcohol
1 drop of Cedarwood oil
1 drop of Lavendar oil
1 drop Citronella oil
1 drop Thyme oils

mix with 4 garlic pellets dissolve into oil/alcohol mixture, take collar and poyurmixture over collar, let sit until absorbed take collar let dry and put on your animals neck! it shoul dbe affective for amonth, also garlic is bad for fleas so taking some garlic essential oil (which you can make by taking garlic and slowly simmering in oilve oil for a few hous) put that int o teh food of the animals this will pis the fleas off and they will go elswhere lol

Thank you, I'll definitely try that out. Flea collars are so expensive too, a cheaper option is always good.
