Simple Rituals

Postby Adarian on Tue Oct 02, 2007 11:48 pm

I am gonna put up some things that are simple ideas for a ritual to slowly get your children introduced to your path. Use you imagination on things and what to make that would be special to you and them.

1. Setting the dinner table

2. Cleaning their room

3. Sweeping the kitchen; or vaccuming the room

4. Brushing their teeth

5. Getting ready for bed

6. Storytime

7. Playing

8. Going for a walk

i bet that these things I listed here you would have never thought of as a ritual. Think about it. EX: Setting the dinner table is just like getting all your items ready for a ritual. Have them say something as they lay each item down for each person. you have them doing 2 things. One they are blessing each item put forth; and two they are helping and it is not made to seem like a chore. Involving your child in such things with a slight twist to the Goddess's path is all you need to introduce. Use your imagination in thinking up some other ideas and post them here to share :D .

Actually, your thread got me thinking about rituals, and how to begin to incorporate them... for example, whenever we all sit down to eat together about 4 or 5 times a week (Not every night, as we all come and go at different times) as they lay the table, the kids demand to light the candles. We have them everywhere.. but they have their own little rituals, eg, they have to snuff out the candles the other one lit.
Although the bedroom Tidying riual usual begins with me screaming, and ends with my nervous break down!!!! Great ideas though, thank you

I am glad that you have found that some everyday things can be turned into these.

The cleaning your room one is the ultimate one. Once you have made it into one that you and the kids love it does make the nervous system and stress of screaming all seem to flow on out the doors and happiness reigns instead. All it takes is a bit of creativity and soon you will have kids giving blessing to things in their room and having their own place.

Here is an example: When I have my son make his bed every morning I have him say something to bless it so when he is ready to lie down he feels calm and ready for sleep. He has certain animals at the foot of the bed and then certain others by his pillows. Each one of his animals have a certain feel to them and he only knows this. I told him to keep it between him and his friends. This makes the bond special and also helps with those nightmares  . Once a week I try to do the thorough cleaning and dusting. He loves incense. So as we clean and dust (I do not use a plain cloth in dusting or use anything like pledge. I actually use altar oil that I have made for dusting all my furnisher) we think happy thoughts and talk about what makes us happy, or dreams and wishes. This does make it go real fast and he doesn't even realize he is cleaning his room. When all is done he says a special something to his pal and protector "Pete"; a dragon by his bed, and all is good.

Now; of course, it does take awhile to find what suits you and your kids in doing things like this, but you always have to remember to make it fun. You know the little twist to make it seem like it is something different, but really isn't  .

Hope that helps more.

Adarian, do you realise on days I could so fly over there and Glomp you to death ;)

I never really thought about it myself in this fashion, but when you consider the term ritual it makes so much sense.

There are a great many things that one does not realize. Even take what us adults do each day. I bet you can find at least 2 things that could be made into a simple ritual:wink:. All it takes is a little creativity on our part. Apply this knowledge to our children and voila! We are the all knowing to them and we begin to anew.

You know it is amazing through all our learnings that one does not apply our everyday doings into it. This is what I take literally and apply it into my everyday life. (I may fall sometimes, but that is normal  )

Now don't glomp me too much

Consider yourself Glomped, sometimes even an old hand at this needs to be reminded that sometimes simple things hold more meaning than we realise ;)
