Childrens rites of Passage?

Postby Cadno ap annwn on Tue Jun 17, 2008 1:17 pm

I'm not a parent myself but I would like to think that when the day comes I can offer my child something to mark each phase of their life. So I wanted to ask what rites of passage are there for our growing children. There was one post here about when a teen aged girl has her first period.

I'm thinking of how would we mark a boys transition into manhood, how do we honour perhaps their transition from being an infant to a junior. I'd love to hear your ideas!!

Well, they all start off with a Belly Blessing when one finds out they are pregnant.

Then you have a Birthing Blessing once the baby is born.

From here it can vary as to the path you follow. You can add certain others if you want or strictly go by the ones mentioned in my other post.

The coming of age starts when they leave toddler hood and go into the next step; Adolescents.

The coming of age as Teens. Yes, there is one for a girl becoming a woman; as there is a boy becoming a man. Each is different as each body goes through changes. This is when you would do the Coming of age for this particular event.

Then as they grow older their are more. Think about your life as you were a baby, toddler, adolescent, teen, young adult, adult. What are the things that made changes in your life?

if you got the book it would help answer a lot of questions, but I do know that each path does have something for this. You can abide by the ritual strictly or make it your own. You just have to imagine what you went through to signify the changes. Also, when you are a parent you see the stages your child goes through, what they have learned or not learned, how they becoming to adapt in this world, what they fight for and so on.

I hope this helps some.

Brightest Blessings!
